2024 Summer Facilities Engineering Intern

WaterOne is searching for talented, creative, and eager-to-learn Engineering Interns for our Facilities Engineering department. This unique, paid-internship will provide an excellent opportunity for you to gain real world experience by assisting the Facilities Engineering Staff on a multitude of exciting projects that impact the world’s most valuable resource – water!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide detailed sketches, technical information, and assistance for preparation of engineering drawings for construction or modifications of facilities.
Gather information from other utilities, engineering firms, and other resources as assigned.
Conduct research to help develop project cost estimates.
Inspect construction work to determine compliance with standards of accuracy and quality as directed.
Review manufacturer’s drawings and manuals for accuracy and compliance with WaterOne specifications.
Operate instruments and equipment for surveying and for pressure and flow measurements.
Attend meetings regarding projects as assigned.
Write specifications, memos, and letters as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Skills & Experience

Minimum educational requirement of reaching sophomore status towards degree in engineering, with minimum of 15 credit hours completed of coursework in mathematics and engineering sciences (hydraulics, mechanical systems, concrete and steel design, electrical controls and circuits, and land surveying preferred)
Must commit to 12-13 week duration of the summer internship from May 20th until August 9th.
This internship will take place onsite; hours will be M-F 7:30am-4:30pm.
Demonstrated capability for good judgment, initiative, sound planning and analytical skills.
Requires good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Requires the ability to read plans and specifications.
Must be able to apply applicable safety standards pertaining to engineering and construction work, including, but not limited to, excavation safety, traffic safety, and the use of personal protective equipment.
Knowledge and skill in the use of traditional and computerized drafting instruments and equipment, particularly in the use of CAD/GIS (Computer Aided Drafting/Geographic Information Systems).
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

2004 Summer Fire Hydrant Auditor

The purpose of this position is to assist in the auditing of fire hydrants which includes flushing, operating, maintaining and recording pertinent information about the hydrant and applicable water valves.

2024 Summer GIS Intern – IT

The primary purpose of this position is to assess, create, and edit GIS data using ArcGIS Desktop. GIS data creation will consist of data conversion from other formats such as CAD and also field data collection using GPS equipment. Map creation and GIS analysis will also be completed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions

Performs lawn seeding, sodding, mowing, power raking and trimming of hedges, shrubs and trees.
Applies fertilizers, insect sprays and weed control sprays.
Inspects and cleans up grounds before mowing to prevent injury or property damage from debris or hidden objects.
Sharpens mower blades and performs routine maintenance on lawn equipment.
Cuts down dead trees and keeps grounds cleared of tree limbs and trash.
Repairs fences, broken windows and does other needed maintenance work as instructed.
Performs painting or staining of walls, floors, trim, doors, handrails, pipes, equipment, and other items.
Inspects equipment such as mowers, tractors and fertilizer machines to insure they are in proper working order.

Other Duties

Perform all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.
Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Skills & Experience

High school graduate or have a GED.
Work outside in all weather conditions.
Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
Get along well with WaterOne personnel and others.
Follow instructions properly.
Can work safely with tractors, mowers, and other equipment.
Knowledgeable in proper confined space entry and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
Experience with or can learn to apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

2024 Summer Communications Intern

The purpose of this position is to gain knowledge and experience by assisting our Communications team with various external and internal communication responsibilities including representing the organization at community outreach events, creating newsletters and publications, and social media content creation. Some events may occur on nights and weekends; flexibility is required.

Responsibilities:

Required Education, Skills & Experience

At least one years’ experience in community service, non-profit client services, direct to consumer sales or marketing, public speaking, or a similar or equivalent.
Must provide writing sample and design or editing portfolio.
Ability to positively represent WaterOne and tap water by upholding its reputation, aligning with our values, and presenting accurate information in an engaging manner appropriate to the audience.
Ability to obtain a thorough understanding of WaterOne history, water treatment processes, common standards and practices, topical issues related to water, and responses to frequently asked questions.
Excellent work habits, ability to work independently and set priorities and continuously meet attendance expectations.
Proven interpersonal speaking skills.
Ability to maintain an environment of high energy and positive engagement.
Availability for weekday, evenings, and weekend events with two weeks’ notice and maintain access to email and telephone for coordination and training purposes.
Ability to responsibly administer and maintain all assigned equipment.
Moderate computer skills, including familiarity with YouTube and other social media platforms.

CAD-CAM Programmer (Drafting Technician I)

Harris Fabrication is looking to hire a CAD-CAM Programmer to join our drafting team! As our programmer, you will be responsible for nesting flat steel parts on the laser, structural steel parts on the beam processor, and offline programming of press brake and machining equipment.
