Mechanical Technician

Peraton is seeking a Technician I – Mechanical who will support the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS. The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples: repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations.

Responsibilities:

Our Mechanical Technician applies working technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks in the repair of various types of mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
Tests, analyzes, and overhauls electromechanical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment using manufacturer’s manuals or similar documentation, detailed drawings, cut away and exploded view drawings, electrical diagrams, and testing equipment
Verifies dimensions using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
Remove, replace, and reinstall electrical and mechanical assemblies and hardware in the repair and overhaul of equipment using hand tools, power tools, hoists, precision-measuring and test equipment
Tests items per requirements for circuit continuity and operational reliability using multimeters, voltmeters, function generators, megohmmeters and oscilloscopes. Analyzes test results, makes repairs or adjustments accordingly
Receives technical guidance as required from supervisor or higher level technicians.
Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent
United States Postal Service Sensitive security clearance required to start
Formal mechanical training from an accredited program or equivalent military training, or a minimum of two years verifiable work history experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical repairs may be used in lieu of education
Must have a strong mechanical aptitude with the knowledge and ability to perform repairs on simple to medium complexity electromechanical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic items
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting techniques
Must be able to read both electrical and mechanical wiring diagrams, schematics and blueprints
Understand the fundamentals of AC and DC motor theory, single and three phase motors
Physical Requirements:

Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job related

Job Description
Visually locates merchandise and other objects.
Visually inspects equipment.
Reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.

Apply sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware (for example, nuts, bolts).

>Assists with inspections of the boiler/furnace to survey the formation of slag and fouling.
>Maintains good Disciplined Site Service records.
>Prepare daily logs and periodic operation reports as assigned or requested.
>Makes field visits to assigned regional sites as required to observe work, review progress, resolve issues and attend project meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Site Service Technician does not have direct supervision responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

Requires a High School Diploma and proven experience operating or maintaining mechanical equipment; a skilled trade or some college course work is desirable.

This position requires an individual who is mechanically inclined, skilled in the use of common tools, and has the ability to use a computer for email and non-complex spreadsheet and word processing software.

Other Requirements

This job position is field based at a client’s boiler plant and may include voluntary travel to other sites in the region for extended periods of two weeks away from the primary site. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential when interacting with clients, contractors, suppliers and employees. Must be a self-starter and able to work without direct supervision on a daily basis. Specific computer or testing skills may be required for some assignments.

Physical Requirements

Usually walking, climbing stairs and ladders; long periods of exposure to hot and dirty boiler room environment; may work indoor or outdoor in all weather; regularly carries 25lbs or more.

Feild Technician – Transformer Decommission

This position is responsible for assignments in entry level teardown activities; to include the decommissioning of transformers, OCB’s, regulators and other oil-filled electrical equipment. Work is performed in both wide-open spaces as well as energized environments. This position requires physical, manual labor as well as the trained use of tools and rolling stock resources. Education & Professional Qualification
Minimum:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:
Associate degree in a technical discipline, preferably in Industrial Maintenance/Technology.

Knowledge/Experience
Technical degree/trade certification or 2 years or equivalent manufacturing technician experience required.
Successful completion of Mars Apprenticeship Program or Co-op.

Minimum:
Possess a fundamental understanding of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings in order to solve problems in a timely manner.
Ability to troubleshoot ac/dc electrical components including motor starters, switches and sensors found on all assigned equipment using basic test equipment such as multi-meters and amp probes.
Ability to troubleshoot basic pneumatic and mechanical drive systems at the component level on all assigned equipment, i.e. sorting systems and palletizing robots.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to support production needs and to conduct multi-task work in a very fast paced work environment
Willingness to develop required technical skills in welding, basic machinist and fabrication/layout skill sets.

Preferred:
Possess an advanced understanding of ac/dc electrical (up to 480-volt 3 phase), hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings in order to solve problems in a timely manner.
Possess PLC/ Instrumentation troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
