Maintenance Technician IV

Join Topeka Metro’s Maintenance Department as a Maintenance Technician IV. The shift for this position is Tuesday-Friday 12:15 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. and Saturday 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with an hourly pay rate of $23.33/hour.

Topeka Metro offers an excellent benefit package including free employee health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, and KPERS retirement. Uniforms and safety/tool allowance are provided.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform entry level maintenance service work on transit vehicles and facilities.
• Perform minor inspections such as checking/replenishing fluids and tire pressure. Fuel all transit vehicles and maintain daily fuel logs. Run fixed-route buses through bus wash.
• Respond to service calls from bus operators on route.
• Ability to perform facility and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, snow removal, facility repairs, and painting.
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary for the completion of assigned duties.
• Possess and maintain an inventory of hand tools necessary for the position.
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements within six (6) months of hire date. Paid training is provided.
• Steady work history with some basic mechanical experience.
• HS diploma/GED.

Applicants must satisfactorily pass a background check, pre-employment drug screen, post offer functional employment test, and DOT medical exam.

Compensation: $23.33/hour

Bus Operator

Mechanic

Job brief
We are looking for Ag/ Diesel/ Automotive mechanics to assemble, maintain and repair machinery and vehicles. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines and mechanical systems.
An excellent mechanic must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail. They must be able to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety precautions.
Responsibilities
Diagnosing vehicle faults manually or with the aid of software and diagnostic tools
Repairing and replacing faulty vehicle parts, as needed
Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
Carrying out scheduled inspection, service, and maintenance
Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users
Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g. repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles etc.)
Documentation of vehicle and equipment service records
Requirements and skills
Proven experience as Mechanic
Knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components
Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
Very good communication skills
A problem-solving ability
Very good physical strength and stamina
High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus
Willing to work with others and public as needed.
Willing to answer phones as needed.

Compensation: $40,000-$80,000 Dependent on experience. We also offer paid vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.

Requirements:

Repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery or equipment.
Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment.
