JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for the patients in accordance with the medical plan of care. Communicates findings as indicated to appropriate persons and documents same in the patient’s medical record. Responsible for managing/overseeing the care and services provided by ancillary and other professional personnel. Responsible for managing supplies and other equipment within the unit. Develops and maintains a collaborative and collegial relationships with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the pain management patient. Will aid patients with collecting information, supporting patient evaluation, administering treatments and medications as needed, and education of health and wellness as well as disease processes.

QUALIFICATIONS
Current State of Kansas Nursing License (Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse)
BLS certification
Previous clinic experience
Legible handwriting is required
Proficient in computer technology and electronic medical records
Excellent patient service and patient relationship skills

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs.
Ability to stand for long periods, occasional overhead and low reaching.
Ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
Requires ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care in accordance with hospital policy/procedure and with departemental, area, and national standards.
Ensures a safe supportive environment for staff, medical staff, and patients.
Participates in thorough orientation of employees, in-service education and staff development to maximize productivity and minimize turnover.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills with all staff about departmental operation, practices, medical-legal and patient care issues.
Responsible for attendance and punctuality to ensure efficient and cost effective operations of the department. Uses budgeted supplies and equipment judiciously.
Assumes responsibility for keeping current with department organizational trends and customer needs through active participation in activities designed to enhance skills, professional and personal growth.
Demonstrates computer skills which include accessing various computer programs and correctly input data into the appropriate program.
Treats all patients equally in accordance to Patient Rights.
Acts on behalf of the patient advocate.
Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.
Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
Conduct Patient Intake – ask patients questions about current symptoms, medical histories, and medications to provide doctors with a complete understanding of patient current medical needs. Obtains vital signs, preliminary tests, and documents appropriately within electronic medical record.
Support providers – prepare equipment or other instruments necessary for a patient’s care and assist with procedures as necessary.
Administer care and medications – provide direct care to patients including dressing changes, topical treatments, administer medications or vaccinations, and follow up with patients to determine effectiveness of care and assess patients during follow up visits
Observation of patient’s overall health
Maintain all necessary medical equipment
Communicate with patients and care givers – act as a liaison between patients, doctors, and ancillary departments, as well as patient representatives.
Document accurately all aspects of patient care within electronic health record
Schedule patients for referral appointments
Obtain prior authorizations
Assist with triage of patients and phone calls
Prescription refills and renewals per physician orders and policy
Follow all privacy and confidentiality policies per HIPAA
1. Completes duties according to the requirements of each approved procedure
1.1. Assembles necessary supplies and positioning aids for scheduled procedures.
1.2. Tests and monitors equipment for proper working condition.
1.3. Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and direction.
1.4. Documents records and other forms accurately adhering to approved policies and procedures.
1.5 Communicates information about the patient’s status to other persons responsible for care of the patient.
2. Applies the prescribed procedures to competently perform the clinic nurse functions.
2.1. Follows principles and aseptic technique in performing duties during the procedure.
2.2. Remains available during the procedure to provide timely response to physician or patient needs.
2.3. Follows manufacturer’s specifications and OSHA guidelines.
2.4. Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure.
3. Performs required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care, storage and calibration procedures as directed.
3.1. Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety.
3.2. Maintains adequate supplies to provide immediate availability during the procedure.
3.3. Maintains a clean and organized work area.
3.4. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and the physician.
