ABOUT THE ROLE

Berry’s internship program is designed to bridge the gap between classroom concepts and practical application in a real-world industrial manufacturing environment.

Berry’s Engineering Interns are proactive, curious, and dependable team members. You’ll take the lead on assigned projects aimed at improving plant efficiency and shaped by your unique perspective. This position will comprise of approximately 75% desk/computer work and 25% hands-on work in the production area. Daily workload will vary based on department needs and your interests, focusing on safety and quality. Personal accountability is expected, questions are encouraged, and constructive feedback is welcome as we pursue our mission of always advancing to protect what’s important.

**The Facilities Project Engineering Intern will work onsite at the Lawrence, KS facility beginning Summer 2025 and is intended to be year-round. This position is expected to work up to 40 hours/week during summer break and <20 hours/week while classes are in session or as determined by the Hiring Manager. Relocation is not available for this position. Only local candidates will be considered**

RESPONSIBILITIES
– Apply general engineering principles to capital projects aimed at reducing costs and improving facility infrastructure and safety.
– Navigate materials system access software to update and maintain records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Company regulations.
– Engage with team members at all levels to inform new projects, prioritizing end-user functionality and feasibility of maintenance activities.
– Work closely with essential infrastructure elements including HVAC, compressed air, and chilled water systems.
– Assist in the design and implementation of molding tethering projects to enhance efficiency and product quality.
– Develop project plans and schedules; assist in estimating timing and costs, determining resource constraints, running feasibility studies, and identifying success metrics.
– Regularly report on project progress and challenges, collaborating with team members to create contingency plans and resolve issues.
– Embrace a team player mentality by approaching all assigned tasks with consideration and positive intent, regardless of scope.
– Provide general support to the Facility Maintenance department.
– Contribute to Company-wide Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals.
– Represent Berry Global in a positive and professional manner when interacting with vendors, customers, or other stakeholders.
– Comply with all Company Environmental Health and Safety standards and Department of Health requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
– Currently enrolled college student with relevant coursework in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
– Mechanical Engineering majors strongly preferred
– Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
– Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
– Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
– Aptitude for and interest in mechanics, machinery, and technically challenging work
– Familiarity with and confidence in using basic hand tools and measurement instruments
– Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
– Exposure to and experience with CAD (SolidWorks) preferred
– 10+ hours/week of work availability during the school year strongly preferred

Berry’s Process Technicians oversee the operations and quality of an assigned Thermoform line. They ensure the line is running at peak efficiency, focusing on safety and quality. The Process Technician Intern will receive the basic training needed to assist full-time Process Technicians with their assigned Thermoform line. Daily workload will regularly consist of recording key aspects, checking parts for quality defects, and assisting/overseeing Operator duties. This position will be approximately 100% hands-on work in the production area with minimal office/desk work. Personal accountability is expected, questions are encouraged, and constructive feedback is welcome as we pursue our mission of always advancing to protect what’s important.

**The Process Technician Intern will work onsite at the Lawrence, KS facility and is intended to be temporary for the summer of 2025. This position is expected to work a full-time (40 hours/week) schedule as determined by the Hiring Manager. Off-shift and/or weekend work hours may be required. Relocation is available for this position.**

RESPONSIBILITIES
– Diagnose and resolve core process issues while managing symptoms to maintain functionality and production levels.
– Regularly report on progress and challenges, collaborating with team members to creatively resolve problems.
– Check parts for quality defects and correct accordingly.
– Ensure the line, extruder, former, and trim press are running at efficient levels and producing quality parts.
– Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform minor repairs.
– Work with production equipment to maximize run times.
– Embrace a team player mentality by approaching all assigned tasks with consideration and positive intent, regardless of scope.
– Perform work safely and ensure good housekeeping practices and procedures are followed.

Adams Land and Cattle has an opportunity for a highly motivated and disciplined individual with a high aptitude in mechanics. At times, this individual may be required to assist with other projects in the Maintenance department.

This person will be responsible for:

Working safely in shop and feedlot environments, following all company safety guidelines.

Working with Machine Services/Lot Maintenance teams on a diverse range of projects, from build, to repair, rebuild and retrofit of production assets, including feedlot facilities (processing, feed mill, fencing, water and sprinkler systems) and equipment (feed and straight trucks, heavy equipment, tractors).

Performing skilled work in welding, cutting, shaping and machining accurately and precisely, using welding and machining equipment.

Assembling, fabricating/machining and repairing parts to specifications including taking mechanical fits, welding parts and machining parts.

Set-up, adjustment and operation of the following welding equipment: arc and MIG welding.

Set-up, adjustment and operation of the following machining equipment: mills and lathes.

Using project plans, blue prints, job specifications and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product.

Inspecting and testing final product for conformance to quality standards and/or blueprint specifications.

Performing related material handling duties.

Coordinating ordering of required welding materials, such as rods, gas and metals.

Maintaining accurate parts use and/or other records.

Cleaning and maintaining the shop work area.

Cleaning and performing preventative maintenance (PM) and general repairs on utilized welding/machining equipment.

Communicating with engineering, supervisory, production services and feedlot personnel to effectively exchange technical information.

Responding to emergency or high priority work which may, on occasion, be outside of normal working hours.

Recognizing that weather conditions may require change in activities and that cattle comfort is first and foremost regarding this activity.

Evaluating current processes/procedures to recommend changes/modifications for improvements.

Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

Commitment to safety and quality culture.

Welding certificate or a minimum of two years welding experience with arc and MIG welders required.

Machining certificate or a minimum of two years machining experience such as lathe, milling machine, drill press, band saw and any machinist related hand tools required.

Electrical, hydraulic and water system experience preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, welding symbols and geometric tolerance/dimensioning.

Experience with precision measurement and calibration, including measuring fits of mating parts.

Basic mathematical skills.

High attention to detail.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.

Ability to work with others to gather and share information and creatively solve challenging problems.

Excellent verbal communication.

Team-oriented.

Vocational/technical diploma/certificate preferred but may substitute diploma/certificate with applicable experience.

Requirements & Compensation
This position requires:

Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. Standing, sitting, walking, carrying, and lifting/lowering frequently; pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, reaching/handling/grasping, and kneeling/crouching occasionally; crawling and stairs rarely.

Standing in place continuously at least four-six hours during the workday.

Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, if needed.

Compensation Details:

Starting Wage: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour
