2024 Summer GIS Intern – Mapping and Drafting

WaterOne is searching for a talented, motivated, and eager-to-learn GIS Intern for our Mapping and Drafting Department.  As a GIS Intern, you will play an important role by collecting field data, performing map editing using ArcGIS Desktop, updating attribute data for specific GIS projects, and performing data analysis. This excellent opportunity gives you the chance to utilize your hard work and knowledge of GIS while learning from an experienced team who are ready to help you grow and develop!

Pay rate: $18.00 per hour

This internship is from May 20 – Aug 9, 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compile, attribute, convert, edit and maintain data in geographic and operational databases and their associated documentation.
Collect GPS points in the field.
Provide timely response and establish high priority for GIS map and analysis requests.
Assist in establishing and maintaining GIS database quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Provide support of integration between GIS and other non-spatial applications such as SAP.
Uphold GIS system integrity, security and confidentiality.
Exchange information and communicate as necessary with others.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education, Skills & Experience

Minimum educational requirement of two years (or 60 credit hours) completed towards a bachelor’s degree in Geography or GIS-related area, with at least 15 credit hours of relevant upper division coursework.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Must commit to 12-13 week duration of the summer internship from May 20th until August 9th.
This internship will take place onsite; hours will be M-F 7:30am-4:30pm.
Knowledge of and experience with ArcGIS Desktop and/or ArcGIS Pro.
Knowledge of the following technology systems: Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office and/or Office 365, file and data storage techniques and systems, GPS data collection techniques, and GIS systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated analytical, cartographic mapping, spatial analysis, and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with time spent outdoors for field duties.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification.

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

Knowledge and experience with engineering design technologies such as AutoCAD
Experience using high-precision “survey-grade” GPS equipment.
Knowledge of SAP.

The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. The employee must be able to install, maintain, or service computer hardware and software and other related equipment. The employee must be able to operate a vehicle at any given time.

This job operates in both in a professional office environment and in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the field on a jobsite.
