2024 Summer GIS Intern – IT

The primary purpose of this position is to assess, create, and edit GIS data using ArcGIS Desktop. GIS data creation will consist of data conversion from other formats such as CAD and also field data collection using GPS equipment. Map creation and GIS analysis will also be completed.

Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compile, attribute, convert, edit, and maintain data in geographic and operational databases and their associated documentation.
Collect GPS points in the field.
Provide timely response and establish high priority for GIS map and analysis requests.
Assist in establishing and maintaining GIS database quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Provide support of integration between GIS and other non-spatial applications such as SAP and SCADA.
Uphold GIS system integrity, security, and confidentiality.
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Skills & Experience

Minimum educational requirement of completing at least two years towards
Completion of two GIS courses minimum using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online.
Must have knowledge of the theory and use of the following technology systems; Windows Operating system, Microsoft Office and/or Office 365, file and data storage techniques and systems, GPS data collection techniques, and GIS systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have good analytical, cartographic mapping, spatial analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification.

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

Working towards GIS, Geography, Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred.
Experience creating and editing Web Maps with ArcGIS Proand/or GPS data collection utilizing high-precision “survey-grade” GPS equipment.

The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to install, maintain, or service computer hardware and software and other related equipment.

This job operates in both in a professional office environment and in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the field on a jobsite.
