2024 Summer Facilities Engineering Intern

WaterOne is searching for talented, creative, and eager-to-learn Engineering Interns for our Facilities Engineering department. This unique, paid-internship will provide an excellent opportunity for you to gain real world experience by assisting the Facilities Engineering Staff on a multitude of exciting projects that impact the world’s most valuable resource – water!

You will play a crucial role in project plan development by utilizing AutoCAD, reviewing and developing project specifications, assisting in actual field construction inspection, researching products, and project estimating. Pay rate is $20.00 per hour

Starts May 20, 2024 – Aug 9, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Project Engineers in the design and inspection of production and other facilities.
Apply engineering fundamentals and established design practices in assisting to develop and implement project plans.
Provide detailed sketches, technical information, and assistance for preparation of engineering drawings for construction or modifications of facilities.
Gather information from other utilities, engineering firms, and other resources as assigned.
Conduct research to help develop project cost estimates.
Inspect construction work to determine compliance with standards of accuracy and quality as directed.
Review manufacturer’s drawings and manuals for accuracy and compliance with WaterOne specifications.
Operate instruments and equipment for surveying and for pressure and flow measurements.
Attend meetings regarding projects as assigned.
Write specifications, memos, and letters as assigned.
Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education, Skills & Experience

Minimum educational requirement of reaching sophomore status towards degree in engineering, with minimum of 15 credit hours completed of coursework in mathematics and engineering sciences (hydraulics, mechanical systems, concrete and steel design, electrical controls and circuits, and land surveying preferred)
Must commit to 12-13 week duration of the summer internship from May 20th until August 9th.
This internship will take place onsite; hours will be M-F 7:30am-4:30pm.
Demonstrated capability for good judgment, initiative, sound planning and analytical skills.
Requires good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Requires the ability to read plans and specifications.
Must be able to apply applicable safety standards pertaining to engineering and construction work, including, but not limited to, excavation safety, traffic safety, and the use of personal protective equipment.
Knowledge and skill in the use of traditional and computerized drafting instruments and equipment, particularly in the use of CAD/GIS (Computer Aided Drafting/Geographic Information Systems).
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Requires good interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communications skills, and good listening skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification.

This job operates in both the field and a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
