2024 Summer Communications Intern

The purpose of this position is to gain knowledge and experience by assisting our Communications team with various external and internal communication responsibilities including representing the organization at community outreach events, creating newsletters and publications, and social media content creation. Some events may occur on nights and weekends; flexibility is required.

Pay Range:  From $18.00/hr

Responsibilities:

Assist with creating and updating communication materials such as newsletters, articles, and outreach supplies, and assist with various internal project requests.
Develop topics, interview various staff, and write articles for our internal newsletter.
Using Adobe programs, create graphics, take and edit photography, and film and edit videos.
Gain knowledge of WaterOne operations and topics of interest in order to knowledgably, professionally, and enthusiastically engage with the public.
Document activities through photography and video and completing post-event documentation or debriefings.

Required Education, Skills & Experience

At least one year of post-secondary education at an accredited college or university.
At least one years’ experience in community service, non-profit client services, direct to consumer sales or marketing, public speaking, or a similar or equivalent.
Must provide writing sample and design or editing portfolio.
Ability to positively represent WaterOne and tap water by upholding its reputation, aligning with our values, and presenting accurate information in an engaging manner appropriate to the audience.
Ability to obtain a thorough understanding of WaterOne history, water treatment processes, common standards and practices, topical issues related to water, and responses to frequently asked questions.
Excellent work habits, ability to work independently and set priorities and continuously meet attendance expectations.
Proven interpersonal speaking skills.
Ability to maintain an environment of high energy and positive engagement.
Availability for weekday, evenings, and weekend events with two weeks’ notice and maintain access to email and telephone for coordination and training purposes.
Ability to responsibly administer and maintain all assigned equipment.
Moderate computer skills, including familiarity with YouTube and other social media platforms.
Ability to use Smartphone camera and video applications.
Proficient abilities using Microsoft Office. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
Must pass post offer medical exam, including background verification and drug screen (may not apply to current employees).

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite products.
Familiarity with email marketing platforms.
Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with YouTube and other social media platforms.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to occasionally move from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions occasionally.  This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
