SUMMARY:
This position will act as a member of a multidisciplinary team in serving clients and families. Provides child foster care placement, complete assessments, locate appropriate placement and monitors their care and well-being to ensure their needs have been met. Licensing and relicensing of foster homes off the reservation through Child Placing Agency License through State of Kansas Department of Children and Families and tribally approved foster homes. This position also provides/refers services to families and children for reintegration/reunification, adoption, and guardianship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Representative of Nation as guardian for all assigned CINC cases. Includes enrolling children in needed programs, signing paperwork as guardian and providing foster parents updated information.
• Obtains certified birth certificate, social security card, and BID card on each child that comes into the care of The Nation.
• Obtains medical card with completion of 5410a form within one business day of temporary custody of the Nation.
• Obtains family social history and accurate genograms within 30 days.
• Places and provides supervision for children in foster, relative, group and adoptive homes, institutions and medical treatment centers.
• Coordinates and runs case plans at various stages of the life of the case with all appropriate entities which includes meeting biological parents within 10 business days of CINC petition.
• Schedule and conduct case plan to establish goals for families and monitor case plan goals for compliance.
• Provides any necessary services, including transportation, for families or individuals to assist in the application, evaluation, or continued eligibility of benefits or services.
• Provide family and individual support to assist in problem solving related to family functioning.
• Assesses foster homes environment factors and personal characteristics of potential foster/adoptive homes to determine suitability for placement.
• Write and submit written court reports including current case plan to CFS Manager 7 business days prior to scheduled court hearing. Reports must be current, relevant to current case plan and follow through with all court orders.
• Attendance is mandatory at all scheduled court hearings that involve children on assigned case load.
• Assist other social workers with court attendance as assigned by CFS Manager.
• Travels to home sites, courts, and state agencies in Tribal/General Services Administration vehicle to assist families and other agencies.
• Maintain case history records, reports and other required documents.
• Conduct monthly home walkthrough visits and log contact on appropriate forms.
• Acts as a liaison between parents/families and other professionals.
• Refer child and parent/guardian to community resources and coordinate services according to need.
• Document all contact on appropriate forms. Maintain up to date case files. Input information in database.
• Provide after hours and weekend on call according to rotation schedule.
• Assists as assigned to fill in for other Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Child Welfare Social Workers concerning case management, reviews, and court appearances as needed.
• Completes home studies as assigned within the given deadlines.
• Attend required CEU training to maintain Social Work licensure.
• Conducts all required background checks.
• Assists with subsidy determination.
• Acts as liaison for families receiving State services as assigned.
• Assist with providing Indian Child Welfare clients services including attendance at court hearings as assigned.
• Assist with providing family preservation services as assigned.
• Assist with completing thorough assessments on all abuse, non-abuse intake allegations, when appropriate submit recommendations and required paperwork to court for custody as assigned.
• Works cooperatively within the office, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, and other agencies as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work
• Kansas Social Worker license with the BSRB or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• One year of direct social work experience; specifically, in child welfare and/or foster care.
• Must have valid Kansas driver’s license and be insurable with the Nation’s insurance or able to obtain license within 90 days of employment.
• Available to work the assigned schedule and available as needed to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours.
• Must have interest and basic knowledge of Native lifestyle and culture.
• Continue to improve job related skills through college courses and/or on-going training.
• Must possess professional work ethics, manner, and appearance.
• Must possess ability to communicate professionally; both orally and in writing a service-orientated approach, sometimes in stressful circumstances.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and dependable to meet the needs of the department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
• Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
• High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situation and documentation.
• A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment.
• Must be able to type proficiently and use standard office equipment.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
• Three years or more of direct social work experience; specifically, in child welfare and/or foster care.
• Master’s degree in social work.
• Current Kansas Social Worker license with the BSRB

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with others, including members of the public
• Ability to maintain high level of privacy and confidentiality of individuals and families.
• Ability to operate general office equipment, including but not limited to 10-key calculator, telephone, computer and operating systems, computer software programs (Microsoft Office programs), fax/copier machine.
• Able to read, write and speak English
• Ability to work efficiently in a highly team-team oriented environment
• Ability to work in a high-stress, deadline-oriented environment
• Attend out-of-state/out-of-town training periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge.
• Daily vicarious exposure to other’s physical and emotional trauma experiences can have severe and lasting effects on workers.
• May enter an unsafe (sanitary and structural concerns) environment while performing job duties. Unsafe conditions such as verbal and potential physical conflicts are not allowed without Law Enforcement back up. May encounter abrasive, unpredictable, and violent people.
• On-Call: 24/7 – reachable by cell phone and ability to respond in-person to a crisis situation within a reasonable amount of time
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 20 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday.
