Civil Drafting Intern – Kiewit Power Engineers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes, but not necessarily limited to the following:
• Utilizes Section 7.4, Design and Development of the Operations Quality Assurance Manual on all projects.
• Utilizes the Operations Drafting/Design Standards Manual with each task or assignment.
• Utilizes each applicable document of the Department Quality Standards and Procedures to implement each task or assignment.
• Utilizes Section 7, Design and Design Verification Procedures, of the Project Procedures Manual
• Reports project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Designer as required. Informs Manager and/or Lead Designer of project decisions that differ from Kiewit Power Engineers standards.
• Learns applicable engineering national and local codes.
• Participates in meetings as required: i.e., Weekly Project Meetings.
• Assists in job-related activities with project team members.
• Checks design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
• Develops 3D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills.
• Develops the capability of checking and navigating in the 3D models for interferences and constructability.
• Creates plan drawings and details.
• Creates Plot Plans and General Arrangement drawings.
• Files the master sets/originals, superseded drawings and originals as required in a timely manner.
• Completes as-builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
• Completes miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
• Creates guidelines, checklists or other applicable knowledge-based documents as assigned.
• Provides lessons learned throughout the project by utilizing the Lessons Learned Database.
• Gathers information needed to develop drawings.
• Resolves checked drawings; prove and understand the comments made.

Mechanical Drafter

Candidate Responsibilities:
– Deliver fully detailed drawings with the appropriate GD&T to Caterpillar drawing standards from existing ProE models >generate .tif files as required of the drawings
– Work with operations/manufacturing personnel to eliminate issues and improve designs
– Able to complete and execute engineering changes with verbal and/or written direction
– Able to make changes to drawings and also to create new drawings from models only >able to create parts pages in ProE

Typical Day:
– Position certain PPE including provided protective eye, also will need steel toe metatarsal covered boots which a payment request of up to $75 dollars to cover cost of boots.

Typical Day:
– Usually a 40 hr week; approximately 8 hr days; 5 days per week
– Working directly with engineers and manufacturing personnel
– Primary work output would be detailed and toleranced finished drawings in Caterpillar’s ProE format
– Attend some meetings as required to support the work in process
– Primarily would spend the day working in ProE but would also be exposed to Microsoft Excel, Word, and Lotus Notes email system

Education Requirements:
– Two year degree or experience in the field

Technical Skills:
– Able to due tolerance stackups and check for interferences in ProE models – (Required) >proficient in 3D parametric modeling and drafting
– ProE preferred but solid works will be ok also
– Good understanding of drafting principles and GD&T standards
– Understanding of welds and welded structures (preferred)
– Understanding of fabricated structural manufacturing processes
– Experience with machinery and equipment design and have a mechanical aptitude (preferred)
Soft Skills
– Fluent in English
– Be able to take verbal instructions and convert those instructions to detailed drawings
